Benga Mines (MBL) has a mining concession in the Moatize District, Tete Province. Within the Concession, MBL is developing its activities with a view to mining, developing open pit mines, known as the Benga Coal Project (PCB), due to its proximity to the locality of Benga.
According to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (UNMDG), and the main issues identified during consultations with stakeholders and affected by community surveys, and taking into account the socio-economic analysis of Mozambique and Tete Province and the Strategic Development Plan for the District of Moatize in particular, MBL developed a framework composed of 6 pillars of social development.
All the projects and initiatives identified for the Social Development Plan, were defined that must be integrated within the 6 pillars.
Social development projects and initiatives are important components for achieving sustained economic growth in a given area. MBL has always collaborated, both with state and non-state institutions, which work in each of the areas of the six pillars, in order to guarantee a concentrated effort for social development in each of the 6 pillars.
Some of the social development projects and initiatives implemented by Benga mines:
- Improvement of the local livestock breed; Improvement of the local livestock breed;
- Promotion of improved latrines, water management and awareness campaigns on hygiene and environmental sanitation;
- Opening of 40 water boreholes for water supply in the Moatize District;
- Promotion of Small Irrigation Systems;
- Creation of a field of vegetative material in Mualadzi;
- Construction of a deep tank in the village of Mualadzi;
- Sports promotion;
- Rehabilitation of the Cambulatsitse Health Center (Rehabilitation of the main block of the Health Center, Rehabilitation of the nurses' house, Rehabilitation of the fence wall, Painting of Nursing Homes;
- Incinerator of biological residues;
- Promotion of literacy;
- Small business development and income generation program (chicken and egg program and loan and savings);
- Acquisition of 06 laptop model computers;
- Acquisition of 11 bikes, Hero, 125cc;
- Acquisition of 470 school desks;
- Construction of a warehouse in the district services of economic activities in Moatize;
- Rehabilitation and expansion of the Benga Health Center; Acquisition of medical equipment (X-ray, ultrasound, blood count, biochemistry, oximeters);
- Training in Savings and Loans;
- Electrification of the village of Benga;
- Construction of a mother waiting house in Cambulatsitse;
- Acquisition of seeds for farmers in Mualadzi and Moatize;
- Improvement of the Moatize water system (Contribution to FIPAG);
- Rehabilitation of the residence of the head of the Zóbue post;
- Construction of a block composed of two classrooms in Mualadzi;
- Construction of the Health Center in Camphata Doa;
- Acquisition of a CD4 testing machine for the Moatize health center;
- Acquisition of a vaccine storage chamber for the Moatize health center;
- Acquisition of a generator for the Moatize health center;
- Acquisition of an ambulance for the Moatize health center;
- Acquisition of 11 motorcycles to support extension services in Moatize;
- Rehabilitation of the Zobue Health Center;
- Rehabilitation of the Zobue Administrative Post;
- Rehabilitation of the Doa health center (Placing coverage in the corridors, Construction of a drugstore in the Doa health center, Construction of a common block in the Doa health center);
- Rehabilitation of the residence of the head of post in Zóbue; Construction of a health center in Camphata - Doa;
- Resumption of professional technical training in automation, industrial electricity, mechanics and industrial welding courses.

Actions planned for implementation in response to the needs of Moatize for the year 2021
- Rehabilitation of the toilets and drainage system of the Moatize district hospital;
- Promotion of sport;
- Rehabilitation of a dam in the special center of Ncondedzi;
- Construction of a block in the Moatize health center;
- Development of an HIV / AIDS campaign;
- Installation of milling equipment at the Mualadzi orphanage;
- Construction of a dam along the Mualadzi River;
- Rehabilitation of the section of road from Cateme Mualadzi.
- Training of community people of Benga, Mualadzi and Mboza in professional technical training in automation, industrial electricity, mechanics and industrial welding courses.
